What is your opinion on women who decide to stay at home to raise their children instead of working?

Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Shannon Windnagle. I am a stay at home and work from home mom. I have 2 children ages 3yrs and 9 months old. I recently read a blog about the statistics of stay at home moms and why it becomes so hard for them to go back to work full-time. As, I was reading this blog I discovered that there are a lot of opinions on how people feel about stay at home moms. For example: Working or Career women with children felt that there is no reason for women to stay at home to raise their children. That you should be able to balance a job/ or career as well as be a mother to your children.

This is my insight on the subject. When I found out that I was pregnant with my first child I worked as a manager for a store. My job required me to be on call 24/7 and work close to about 70 hrs a week. Because this was my first child and I knew the miscarriage rate was high for me, I decided to leave my job for the remaining of my pregnancy. I took a little more then a year off of work. When my daughter was born I still stayed at home until she was 4 months old. Then I finally decided to go back to work. After all that time being off of work, especially someone like me who was so used to working a lot, that I couldn't wait to go back to work.

However, because I went back to work on a full-time basis I missed my daughters entire first year. I missed her first words, the first time she crawled, and even the first time she took her first steps. I was very upset with myself. I started having regrets about going back to work.

When I became pregnant with my son, I did the total opposite! I continued to work throughout my pregnancy and then decided to stay at home to raise my children after he was born.

My question is what do you think about mothers who leave their jobs/ or careers to stay at home and raise their children? and if you are a stay at home mom do you regret the choice that you made?

  1. Hi. I am s stay at home mum too. Stopped working after the birth of my 2nd kid. Do I regret? Absolutely not and if I had to do it again I would. But got to admit that this year they all go to school full time ... and decided to go back to work but I wanted to work from home. Going back to work feels good ... you do feel like a grown up again but time goes by so fast that my advise it make the most of it and enjoy your kids while they are little ... It only happens once.

  2. It is really a good decision and brave too to stay home and take care of family instead of going out for work. But children grow and they start going to school then we moms find it bored to just stay home. If we wish then we start working again or if don't want to go out then we can start working from home itself. There are so many ways of doing it these days. And also bring good earning too so it is something to give a thought. Good luck!

  3. Thanks this post..
